California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure track faculty ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in an area related to the study and/or promotion of Control or Electronics Engineering.

Student Population.  California residents comprise the majority (96%) of applicants to undergraduate programs at Cal Poly Pomona – nearly half (49%) of new students were transfers in Fall 2020.  58% of Cal Poly Pomona students are first generation, 70% receive financial aid, and 44% qualify as Pell-eligible.  The university enrolls a diverse student body that identifies as 49% Latinx, 21% Asian, 15% White, 3% Black, 5% International, 3% two or more races, 3% unknown, and less than 1% Native Hawaiian or Native Pacific Islander and less than 1% Native American Indigenous. 39% of the student body were STEM majors with the top enrolled programs including psychology, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, biology and computer science.

College of Engineering: The College of Engineering’s mission is to prepare students for industry and advanced studies by implementing an inclusive polytechnic philosophy through collaborative teamwork, innovation, entrepreneurship and professional integrity. The College offers 12 ABET-accredited undergraduate degrees and 7 Master’s degrees to over 6,300 students across seven academic departments that include: Aerospace Engineering, Chemical and Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The College is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report and currently ranks 5th among undergraduate engineering programs in non-doctorate-granting public institutions. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering: The department offers B.S and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Computer Engineering.  The graduate and undergraduate curricula include a large number of laboratories where students experience the practical application of concepts learned in the classroom. Additionally, a senior design project including both design and implementation is required of all undergraduates. The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECE) is accredited with a diverse student body of about 1000 Undergraduate and 100 Graduate students. We have two undergraduate programs Electrical Engineering and  Computer Engineering and one graduate program.

The primary focus of the ECE program is on students who plan to go to work as Engineers right after graduation. The overall goals of the program are to:

• Help students develop the technical skills needed to be good engineers.
• Help students develop the communication skills needed to be good written and oral communicators.
• Help students develop a sense of responsibility as both engineers and members of society

Position description: The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure-track position in the areas of Control or Electronics at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2023. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the potential to establish a research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include both introductory and advanced courses, as well as assisting in curriculum development. The applicant will be expected to advise students; serve on department, college, and university committees; and engage in professional activities. Applicants whose work supports the university’s Learn by Doing philosophy and demonstrates a commitment to both the highest standards of professional ethics and to diversity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.

Minimum requirements include: 

• The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited university by the date of appointment.
• A commitment and a record of contributions to student success through applicant’s teaching, scholarship, or service.  This will be described in the Student Success Statement, which must address at least two of the inclusive excellence criteria listed above. 
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence
• Demonstrated commitment to an active research agenda
• Ability to teach a broad range of courses in areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
• Demonstrated commitment to IEEE code of ethics.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications: 

• Preference will be given to candidates in any of the area of Control or Electronics.
• Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level, particularly in laboratory or project courses.
• Relevant professional engineering work experience.
• Demonstrated potential for developing innovative lecture and laboratory curricula.
• Demonstrated ability to develop an applied research program.
• Experience with contracts and grants for applied research projects, preferably as a PI or co-PI.
• Demonstrated potential to establish industrial collaborations.
• Potential for developing innovative curricula.

Finalists for the position will: 

• be required to provide official transcripts for highest degree before the on-campus interview; 
• be required to provide three letters of reference dated within the last two years; 
• Final candidates being interviewed are expected to make a presentation of research and a teaching demonstration to faculty and interact with students.
