Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia seeks student-oriented candidates for the position of University Registrar.

This position offers opportunity for a motivated candidate to bring innovation and leadership to all administrative and operational activities related to registrar functions and to support institutional research. The registrar reports to the Provost, supervises two staff members, and serves on relevant Academic Affairs committees.

The University Registrar oversees systems and processes of academic records and the conferral of degrees and academic awards for undergraduate and graduate programs. This position also ensures the integrity and accuracy of student academic record-keeping and the overall academic integrity of the institution. The registrar works directly with the Provost, Office of Academic Affairs, and the faculty to coordinate class schedules and classroom assignments and to prepare and edit the academic catalog. They will also interface frequently with the Associate Vice President for Student Success to reinforce practices supportive of student success and retention. In close collaboration with the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Chief Data Officer, the registrar prepares and audits student data essential for official internal and external reporting and supports other relevant data research as needed. They also oversee the conformity of educational record use, dissemination, and privacy of student information to university policies and legal requirements, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other applicable laws and regulations.

Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Minimum of three years of progressive experience in a higher education registrar’s office;
  • Knowledge and application of current best practices relevant to enforcing federal, state, local, and institutional policies that relate to academic records, institutional research and reporting, and institutional accreditation;
  • Experience in understanding of FERPA and protection of confidential student records;
  • Expertise in utilizing enterprise-scale student information systems and reporting tools;
  • Ability to assess, update, and/or introduce tools and technologies to enhance office operational efficiencies, as well as to optimize the use of existing tools;
  • Experience fostering a student-success and student-retention approach to the work of the Registrar’s Office;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituents; and
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master’s degree;
  • Knowledge of Ellucian Banner and Orbit Reporting & Analytics;
  • Supervisory experience;
  • Track record of office leadership in an institution of higher education; and
  • Data analytical skills to support institutional improvement and the development and implementation of strategic initiatives.
