The Department of Religious Studies at Skidmore College invites
applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant
Professor Rank to commence in Fall 2023. Area of specialization for
this position is open. The successful candidate will be
methodologically innovative and will complement the department’s
current strengths. We encourage applications from individuals with
identities historically underrepresented in the academy. The
candidate will be expected to teach RE 105 “American Gods” (an
introduction to religious studies with a focus on American
religions); a religious studies course that emphasizes theory and
method; a course that contributes to the College’s
interdisciplinary first-year seminar program; and 200- and
300-level courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. The hired
candidate will demonstrate a commitment to justice, diversity,
equity, and inclusion in their teaching, scholarship, and service.
Additional responsibilities include advising students and service
activities at the College. The position involves an in-person
teaching load of 18 credits per year which typically equates to 5
courses per academic year.
Skidmore College is a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal
arts college in Saratoga Springs, New York, with a student
population of 2,600 (8:1 student-faculty ratio), 26% of whom are
domestic students of color, 10% are international students, and 15%
are first generation college students.
