Job Details

The Department of Theatre in the College of Fine Arts at the University of Montevallo invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Lighting Design and Technology beginning August 2023.  Duties for this position include: instruction in Lighting Design and Technology and adjacent production areas in performance design, academic advising for Theatre majors, and lighting design and implementation (or mentor for student designers when available) for 4 mainstage productions per year in the College’s Center for the Arts opened in 2020. Engagement in department recruiting activities is expected, as is ongoing participation in departmental, college-level, and university-wide service. Opportunities are available for the development of new courses in lighting and specialty content in addition to updates to existing catalog offerings. The ideal candidate will contribute to the diversity of the Department by bringing a perspective, way of thinking, and/or a unique set of experiences that expand the conversations and practices in our field and open the doors to a broad range of students and practitioners. 

Required Qualifications:  

  • MFA in Lighting Design;
  • University-level teaching experience (graduate assistantship experience included);
  • Experience in ETC Ion programming;
  • Demonstrated ability to program moving lights and LED lighting equipment;
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Networking and IP protocol as well as dimmer-less lighting systems;
  • Demonstrated flexible collaborative style (ability to adapt to diverse production modes and needs). 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Competency (professional or academic) in Sound Engineering or Sound Design mentorship;
  • A professional profile in theatre with union membership and/or professional affiliations;
  • Proficiency in After Effects, Adobe PremierePro, and QLab for audio and projection production uses.
