The Q. William Hammack School of Business (HSB) at Oglethorpe University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Management beginning fall 2023. Tenure track faculty typically teach three courses per semester on a ten-month contract. Overload and summer teaching opportunities are available if desired.

Founded in 1835, Oglethorpe University is a liberal arts college that unites a close-knit campus community with the big city culture and opportunities of Atlanta, Georgia. Today, Oglethorpe enrolls over 1,400 students, representing 33 states and 31 countries.  Oglethorpe University is committed to having a workforce which reflects the diversity of the students we serve.  Recently, the university has made strides in advancing our commitment to institutional diversity, including the hiring of a Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and establishing a university-wide diversity taskforce.

The Hammack School of Business offers majors in the areas of accounting, business administration, economics, human resource management, and management along with a minor in nonprofit management. Over 25% of all Oglethorpe undergraduates select a major within the HSB, making it one of the largest divisions on campus.  This faculty position is reflective of the broader growth strategy of the HSB, made possible in part through the generosity of Mr. William Hammack, a successful alumnus.

Minimum qualifications:  A Ph.D. or DBA in management from an AACSB accredited university is required.  ADB candidates will be considered.  Teaching experience is preferred.

High quality teaching is the expectation at Oglethorpe. The ideal candidate will be able to actively engage a diverse classroom of students using pedagogical techniques and methods appropriate for a teaching oriented liberal arts college. The candidate should be prepared to teach a range of management courses.  Opportunities to teach abroad are also sometimes available.

While teaching is the highest priority, the ideal candidate will possess the ability or strong potential to produce relevant  research and to stay current in the field of management through professional development activities. Service to the University and HSB is also expected. Service may include mentoring students, university and HSB committee assignments, and assessment activities.

Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness, a statement of teaching philosophy, and the names and contact information for three references. In the cover letter, please address all the qualifications stated above and also provide evidence of a commitment to teaching and mentoring students from a range of social, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Review of applications will begin on October 31, 2022.
