Job Description

Department of Information studies is seeking a part time instructor who can teach IST 652: Scripting for Data Analysis: Scripting for the data analysis pipeline. Acquiring, accessing and transforming data in the forms of structured, semi- structured and unstructured data. Additional work for graduate students.
After taking this course, students will be able to:
  • Write scripts to access and amass information from files of structured data, access files in semi-structured data, and to define and find patterns in unstructured data.
  • Prepare and transform data to produce data summaries, lists, and networks.
  • Analyze and solve data access problems for the three types of data and to find and deploy appropriate software packages that can be integrated into the problem solution.
  • Frame real world data questions and show how they can be answered with data.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher required in a Data Science related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with data and statistical analysis, and knowledge of the programming language R.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be prepared to serves as instructor and mentor, and be willing to work with the Professor of Record and other instructors teaching this class. This course has a developed syllabus, exercises, and texts, however, we seek individuals who can bring their own experiences to the course and lead lab recitations.
  • Collaborate with professor of record, who is responsible for creating the course syllabus and course content, as well as providing an overview of their overall vision for the course.
  • Attend onboarding and training with the iSchool’s Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning ( FCTL )
  • Maintain office hours and open communication with students.
  • Maintain the course in the Blackboard Learning Management system
  • Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner; provide feedback when appropriate.
  • Prepare for weekly in-person sessions with students
  • Prepare to offer the class in the Spring 2023 semester on campus
