The Department of Interdisciplinary and Inclusive Education operates within the College of Education, which offers undergraduate programs in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Special Education. The department also offers the following graduate programs: Master of Arts in both special education and learning disabilities, Master of Education in Teacher Leadership, and multiple Certificates of Graduate Study (COGS). A Special Education Assessment Center, supported by the Department, provides families with further structures to assist students with special needs. Additionally, the College of Education houses and supports the Early Childhood Demonstration Center, which serves preschool-age children and provides field and clinical experiences for early childhood candidates.

The College of Education is searching for two highly qualified and experienced Special Education professionals to engage in collaborative research with faculty and initiate research projects for external funding, and teach courses in the graduate Special Education/ Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC) programs. These professionals will also participate in service initiatives, particularly LDTC-C program coordination for one of the positions, and implementation and initiatives in a growing and diverse region of special education systems. These successful candidates will have a research and teaching philosophy guided by a commitment to diversity, social justice, cultural responsiveness, sociocultural theory and constructivism. The candidates will teach courses in the graduate special education and/or LDTC programs. Expertise in areas such as assessment, diagnostic assessment, curriculum, collaborative practices, and neurodevelopmental characteristics and needs (birth-12) is highly preferred. Program coordination responsibilities will be required for one selected applicant. Both searches in this posting are for a full-time, tenure-track position.

Required Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in special education from an accredited institution of higher education at the time of appointment

• Certification as a LDT-C or Educational Diagnostician and/or meets state licensure requirements for Special Education (P-12) and a minimum of 3 years of public school teaching in inclusive P-12 settings or a private school for students with disabilities.

• Demonstrated competence in research, teaching online, and service in special education, including a strong research record in special education addressing current timely issues and trends in our field

• Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate, evidence-based practices in diverse educational settings; experience with student-centered practices and evidence-based teaching strategies for students with a range of suspected and diagnosed disability labels.

• Strong understanding of various education systems such as public and private education centers, Part C Early Intervention as well as public preschool and P-12 education programs and familiarity with the accreditation standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)

• Demonstrated ability in communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, including commitment to inclusion, social justice and equity in special education, and culturally responsive and differentiated instruction, as well as collaboration, collegiality, and respect for all people

• Demonstrated commitment to working with multiple stakeholders, P-12 schools, and underrepresented groups of children.

• A teaching/learning philosophy consistent with the mission of the College of Education

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in program development, higher education teaching in multiple formats (including in-person, online, and hybrid), supervision and/or coordination of supervision

• Experience with program coordination or leadership in special education programs or a willingness to lead at the program level

• Experience with multiple forms of formal and informal assessment and the evaluation of stakeholders and educational environments

• Advocacy related to access, success, and equity issues in education
