The Department of Critical Race, Gender, and Culture Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a term faculty appointment in African American and African Diaspora Studies for Academic Year 2023-2024 at the rank of Professorial Lecturer. The successful applicant will teach three courses per semester (fall and spring) at the introductory and advanced levels. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service. We especially welcome candidates with expertise in fields such as Black Diaspora Studies and Science and Technology Studies. Social scientists are particularly encouraged to apply.

The appointment is a 9-month position, with the possibility of renewal for the next Academic Year, and will commence August 28, 2023. Salary is competitive.

The African American and African Diaspora Studies Program offers a BA and a minor. It is part of the Department of Critical Race, Gender, and Culture Studies, which also includes programs in Arab World Studies; American Studies; Asia, Pacific, and Diaspora Studies; Latina/o/x Studies; and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Applicants should hold a PhD, or have an anticipated PhD completion date before August 2023, in a field conducive to an appointment in African American and African Diaspora Studies.
