Assistant Professor of Climate Science

The School of Natural Resources (SNR) at the University of Missouri (MU) is seeking a faculty member in Climate Science.  With this position, MU will better occupy a place among a select group of universities that boast a truly integrated and multidisciplinary approach to extension, research, and actionable scholarship in the field of climate science. This position will strengthen growing teaching and research programs, collaborate with other established MU research centers to garner major grants, form innovative new partnerships with private and public partners, and contribute toward improving grant and publication metrics considered in the Association of American Universities' (AAU) rankings. This position will complement and collaborate with faculty in SNR; the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR); and other colleges and departments across the MU campus. Collaborative opportunities also exist with the MU Center for Agroforestry, the MU Water Center, and the Interdisciplinary Plant Group (IPG). 

This is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment in teaching and research at the assistant professor level.  We are seeking candidates with expertise in earth’s climate system, with a background in scientific areas such as climate dynamics, climate modeling, extreme weather events, or hydroclimate. Expertise in data analysis, artificial intelligence or machine learning is desirable. The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate teaching mission of the School as well as develop an exciting, high-impact, nationally/internationally recognized, externally-funded research program that complements institutional strengths in climate and environmental sciences. 

Minimum Qualifications - A Ph.D. is required in Climate Science, Atmospheric Science, Hydrology or a closely related area by the time of appointment. 

Candidates will be evaluated on:  postdoctoral experience; a strong record of peer-reviewed publications; teaching experience; and a level of grantsmanship that reflects high productivity relative to the applicant’s career stage.

Starting date:  August 1, 2023, or as negotiated.
