Description

The Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for the next Director of the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life, a position that will include an appointment as a professional (non-tenure) track Associate or Full Professor of Practice in the Department of Communication Studies. The director should have leadership experience and a demonstrated background and expertise in politics, government, public affairs, or a related field. The director also will teach two to three courses each year in the Moody College of Communication in an area of the person's specialty. The director will be expected to have a significant in-person presence on campus.

The Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life is an education, outreach, and research unit in The University of Texas at Austin's Moody College of Communication. The Institute, founded in 2000, is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and connecting the next generation of Texas civic leaders. The Institute executes numerous vibrant programs to inform and engage elementary through college students in civic life.

Qualifications

Applicants must have, at a minimum, a B.A./B.S. degree and ten years of experience in government, politics, public policy, or a related field, and/or a terminal graduate degree in a related area and at least five years of experience. Applicants also must have fundraising experience, such as working with individual donors or obtaining grants. College teaching experience is preferred, and a willingness to maintain a recurring teaching load is required. Established connections with Texas politics, public policy, and community leaders are preferred.
