POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Tenure track, Assistant Professor in Counseling specializing in School Counseling in a vibrant CACREP-accredited program serving diverse students and communities. Appointment includes teaching a range of graduate courses for prospective counselors and counselor educators with an emphasis on master’s-level practitioner preparation in a program with four concentrations: School Counseling (CACREP Accredited), Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP Accredited), Addictions Counseling (CACREP Accredited), and Student Affairs in Higher Education. The department seeks a candidate. The candidate will teach courses primarily in this area of the master’s program as well as courses across the curriculum and contribute to scholarly and leadership endeavors in the department. The hired candidate may also teach in the thriving CACREP-accredited doctoral program in Counseling, which emphasizes advanced training in Teaching/Andragogy, Research, Leadership, and Counseling Practice. Faculty members are expected to be active scholars; advise students; contribute to accreditation processes; participate in department, college, and university committees; and meet qualifications to teach in a CACREP-accredited program.

THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN SERVICES AND THE DEPARTMENT OF COUNSELING

Montclair State University is a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), with more than 25 percent of its undergraduate student body being of Hispanic descent. Additionally, the U.S. Department of State has recently recognized Montclair State University's commitment to providing life-changing educational opportunities for historically minoritized groups. Montclair State University is home to the nationally ranked College of Education and Human Services (CEHS). CEHS aims to create a healthier, better educated, and more just society, committed to student, faculty, and staff diversity, and values the educational benefits that derive from such diversity. The Department of Counseling enrolls approximately 500 students in our master’s, post-Master’s/certificate, and doctoral programs, supported by three professional staff members, three clinical specialists, and 11 full time faculty. The master’s program enrolls approximately 400 students, with the school counseling concentration comprising nearly half of all of those students; the post-master’s/certificate program enrolls approximately 50 students and the doctoral program enrolls approximately 50 students. The doctoral program was the first CACREP-accredited counseling doctoral program in the New York City metropolitan area.

QUALIFICATIONS  

Required: Earned doctorate in Counseling/Counselor Education or related field; if doctorate not in Counseling/Counselor Education, experience as a full-time faculty member in a Counseling/Counselor Education program; a well-defined research agenda, evidence of scholarly activities, and success in or potential for publications. Expertise in school counseling through practice, research, and/or leadership. Demonstrated aptitude for or evidence of excellence in teaching, and demonstrated commitment to student and faculty diversity, equity, justice and antiracism. Successful candidates must demonstrate capability of forging partnerships in local, neighboring communities, agencies, and institutions to deepen relationships therein.  

Preferred: Experience and/or licensure/certification as a school counselor. Experience using digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning, including teaching online.
