Chief Human Resources Officer/Associate Vice President

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Chief Human Resources Officer/Associate Vice President.

Primary Job Duties: Provide effective strategic vision and leadership in all areas of Human Resource Management. Serve as an internal consultant and collaborative business partner to the University’s management team, supervisors and staff on Human Resources matters with a high degree of confidentiality, integrity and judgment.

The CHRO is expected to be an institutional-wide thinker who works collaboratively with other leaders in supporting change management initiatives. Additionally, they are responsible for developing HR’s strategic plan, assuring alignment with the University and its entities, developing and implementing HR policies and guidelines and working collaboratively with campus stakeholders to link the University’s strategies and policies to faculty and staff. The CHRO has overall accountability for HR performance and ensuring compliance with federal, state, University System of Maryland (USM), and University policies and procedures. 

The CHRO oversees talent acquisition, retention and succession strategies; organizational development and training initiatives; total rewards, performance management; employee relations, including collective bargaining; and the management of HR systems and analytics. They must work collaboratively with the University partners in the development and implementation of diversity and inclusive excellence initiatives in support of SU's D&I objectives.

Minimum Qualifications: Greater than ten years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or a related field or seven years of related experience and a Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field. At least 5 years of experience in a senior level position with direct supervisory responsibility for a comprehensive customer service oriented Human Resources operation.

Knowledge of and commitment to HR best practices in organizational leadership and Human Resources Management; ability to form and maintain positive relationships with a broad range of individuals, be an active leader in developing programs to foster a diverse and inclusive community, exercise a high level of independent judgment, possess effective presentation skills and an appreciation for and support of shared governance.

Must be detail-oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral & written communication skills Must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience supervising a Human Resources operation in Higher Education and knowledge of and demonstrated experience with the application of business process engineering and total quality improvement processes preferred.

This is a full-time, exempt, State position with a full benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
