The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Education (SOE) invites applications for an assistant professor position on the clinical or research faculty track in the Department of Counseling and Educational Studies, beginning July 2023. The current position is designated for school or clinical mental health counseling. The SOE offers two counseling tracks, School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the master’s level, and a graduate certificate program. Both counseling tracks are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The program enrolls approximately 200+ students annually across the two tracks. The School of Education ranks 14th among the nation’s schools of education according to the latest ranking from U.S. News and World Report.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach six (6) courses per year for clinical faculty or four (4) courses per year for research faculty, supervise and advise students, provide leadership and service in the program, engage in research and scholarship, and participate in professional service at the school, university, state, regional, and national levels. Faculty in the SOE programs teach in both face-to-face and virtual environments, with support from a staff of instructional designers and technologists. Faculty may serve on doctoral committees.

  • Requirements for the position include a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited program.
  • Completion of all doctoral requirements prior to employment.
  • Full-time professional counseling and supervisory experience, eligibility as a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) and/or certification as a school counselor in Maryland.
  • Research experience and a record of publication.
  • The ability to successfully teach in a highly diverse urban setting with a high population of international students.
  • Knowledge of CACREP standards and process.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Specialization in Assessment and Appraisal, Group Counseling, and/or Neurocounseling.
  • Experience teaching and research in a wide range of subjects particularly school counseling courses.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
