The Department of Geography, Planning, and Sustainability seeks to hire a full-time Lecturer in Urban and Regional Planning to begin September 1, 2023. The successful candidate will teach 24 credit hours at the undergraduate and graduate levels each academic year with the option to teach overload and summer classes for additional compensation. Courses include introduction to planning, advanced community planning & site design, environmental planning, and planning in New Jersey. The candidate may also propose and develop new courses related to his or her interests and/or specialization. When applicable, the lecturer will be expected to teach their courses through the lens of humanities most pressing existential crises, namely the climate crisis and the biodiversity crisis.

The position is non-tenure track, but provides renewable, multiyear 10-month contracts with benefits, as well as the opportunity for promotion to Senior Lecturer and Master Lecturer. Successful candidates should employ effective contemporary pedagogical techniques. Lecturers are expected to contribute to departmental and university service through membership on department-, school-, and/or university-level committees, advising student organizations, coordinating introductory course offerings, and/or assisting with curriculum development among various potential contributions.

The Department of Geography, Planning, and Sustainability includes 4 tenured research faculty, 1 tenured non-research faculty, 2 additional research faculty members with joint appointments in other academic units, and 4 full-time lecturers. The Department has approximately 175 majors across four undergraduate degree programs and 1 graduate program: BA Geography, BA Environmental and Sustainability Studies, BS Community and Environmental Planning, BS Geographic Information Science, and MS in Urban and Regional Planning. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to join an energetic group of faculty committed to providing students with an outstanding education, maintaining traditions of collegiality, civic engagement, and community outreach.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. (preferred) or Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning. Preference will be given candidates with AICP and/or PP credentials. Candidates who do not hold these credentials must outline a commitment to obtaining them. Evidence of strong prior teaching experience is required. Strong interpersonal communication skills are essential.
