DIRECTOR - ACADEMIC PROJECTS

MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Malcolm X College is seeking a Director of Academic Projects. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) - Online Learning, the Director of Academic Projects is responsiblefor providing operational support to academic departments in the areas of program growth and performance. The Director of Academic Projects works closely with faculty and administration to identify and implement incremental innovations, new programs, and operational capabilities that advance the scope of Online Learning at the City Colleges of Chicago(CCC). The position also manages district-wide projects intended to align online offerings with the District’s strategic objectives. Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Collaborates with administrators, faculty,and other staff at all colleges to identify potential opportunities to expand online courses and program offerings to ensure CCC is meeting the needs of the community.
  • Works within the CCC system, assisting academic and administrative leadership in building the operational infrastructure to support the development of new institutional programming.
  • Plans and manages the development of new programs and the addition of delivery modes for existing programs,ensuring deadlines are met and courses are launched on schedule, in collaboration with College Vice Presidents, Deans, faulty and district administrators.
  • Ensures all aspects of a program launch including course launch, marketing, faculty training, availability of student services,and other necessary steps are completed within the scheduled time frame.
  • Reports and escalates project issues to appropriate departmentand/or to the Provost.
  • Works with academic and administrative leadership to develop custom program proposals for potential program partners and institutional clients.
  • Supports CCC in leading new program/course and delivery initiatives and works closely with stakeholders; facilitates meetings to develop a comprehensive and pedagogically sound learner-center program, curriculum documentation and assessment plan that meets defined program learning objectives.
  • Develops a standardized process and project plan, inclusive of quality benchmarks,that will guide development of new programs and/or new modalities for existing programs.
  • Assesses colleges and/or program readiness for fully online program delivery. Collaborates with local college leadership to ensure readiness.
  • Collaborates with administration and academic departments to assess ongoing program health.
  • Manages annual and one-time budgets; ensures project deliverables within established budgets; develops proposals and other initiatives for expanded program support.
  • Responsible for vendor and consortium relationships related to growth and enhancement of technology-enhanced learning.
  • Collaborates with relevant Business Office(s) and CCC Procurement to ensure delivery of services from new or existing vendors/consortia.
  • Cultivates and maintains strategic partnerships; serves as primary liaison to faculty and administrators to plan and execute programming activities.
  • Collaborate with administration to assess the availability and delivery options for online student services.
  • Leads the implementation of new options. Stays current on CCC academic programs, community partner programs as well as trends in higher education and industry.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field of study.
  • Three years of administrative experience in higher education, preferably in a community college environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of program development, continuing education, cross-organizational partnerships, and external stakeholder management.
  • Thorough knowledge on designing, developing, delivering, and assessing learning programs for adult learners and programs that engage the community.
  • Knowledge of instructional design, program evaluation and assessment.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to workindependently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative and integrate diverse opportunities and complex viewpoints into simple program/business plans.
  • Ability to innovate, design and implement new programming concepts•Ability to collaborate with different faculty, staff, and external partners); strong stakeholder/partner management skills.
  • Strong attention to details, excellent critical thinking skills, and ability to exercise good judgement.
