Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Interpreting, Linguistics, Deaf Studies or related field, with specialization in American Sign Language (ASL) Linguistics, Deaf Studies, and/or Sign Language Interpreting, or a related discipline. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2023.
• Demonstrated potential for effective teaching
• Demonstrated potential for research, scholarly and creative activities
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

• Signing skills like a Native ASL signer or native-like fluency
• Demonstrated excellence in effective teaching of undergraduate students learning ASL and Deaf cultures
• Demonstrated successful experience in teaching American Sign Language courses using the “Signing Naturally” curricula
• Possession of an ASLTA certification
• Demonstrated excellence in appropriate-level scholarly and creative activities focused on local, national, and/or global deaf sign languages and d/Deaf identities and cultures
• Ability to collaborate with existing linguistic and ASLD faculty
• Demonstrated collaboration with local, and/or national American and/or global d/Deaf communities
• Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body

Duties:

• Teach ASL Linguistics and Deaf Cultures courses at various levels of the department's curriculum such as: Intermediate and Advanced Interpreting and Ethics, ASL 1-4 levels, ASL Literature, Sign Language Sociolinguistics, Critical Deaf and Disability Studies, and/or Global Deaf Cultures and Languages. [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
• Engage in appropriate departmental, college, university, and community service
• Develop and sustain a research program and produce appropriate-level scholarly work and creative activities focused on sign languages and Deaf cultures leading to presentation and publications
• Work within the ASLD program with existing faculty to connect with, and to build University relationships with local, national, and global d/Deaf communities
• Mentor and lead a student organization affiliated to the ASLD program and to outreach in local D/deaf and signing communities
