Position: Assistant Professor of Theoretical Physics of Quantum Matter or Non-Equilibrium Phenomena
Effective Date: August 17, 2023 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D., or equivalent degree, in Physics or a closely related field and
• At least one year of postdoctoral experience
• Record of theoretical physics research focused on quantum matter, non-equilibrium phenomena, or closely related fields
• Potential for attracting external funding to develop and sustain research involving undergraduate and graduate students
• Ability to teach physics courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels
• Demonstrated interest and commitment to increasing the participation of underrepresented students in science through teaching and mentoring
• Evidence of ongoing research in the physics of quantum matter or non-equilibrium phenomena and credible plans for future research
• Demonstrated potential for developing and sustaining an independent, externally funded, research program involving undergraduate and graduate students leading to peer-reviewed publications
• Demonstrated commitment to learning and incorporating modern pedagogical methods
• Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body

Duties:

• Teach physics courses at various levels of the department's curriculum [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
• Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research projects
• Develop and sustain a research program, involving students, leading to publications and external grant applications
• Participate in and provide service to the department, college, university, profession, and community

Our department is one of only six Bridge Sites of the APS Bridge Program in the nation to improve the number of minoritized students pursuing a Ph.D. in physics.

New faculty receive start-up funds as well as reduced instructional workload over their first three years to establish a research program. Multiple avenues exist for professional development including learning communities, individually tailored mentoring, and equity, diversity, inclusion related initiatives.
