Position Summary: The School of Health Sciences is currently seeking applications for 2 Assistant Professor positions. This is a full-time, on campus, nine-month, tenure-track position within the Health Care Management and/or Health Informatics and/or Health Administration programs. There is an anticipated start date of January 1, 2023.
With strong enrollment and a team of enthusiastic administrators, faculty and staff, the HCM, MHI, and MHA programs are poised for significant growth. Our programs’ mission is to prepare students for leadership roles in the healthcare industry, with a specific focus on the management/administration of healthcare facilities. Our vision of the program is to increase access to premier undergraduate and graduate degrees that produce graduates who are academically prepared to lead the healthcare industry through the processes associated with patient information and health care operations. In support of our program’s vision, mission and values, we strive to be compassionate and understanding to students by offering both on-campus and online education that assures our premier health care informatics and/or health care management/administration degree is available to on-campus students, as well as online students, who are place bound and/or working adults.
Duties and Responsibilities: Providing classroom instruction in multiple delivery formats as assigned including on-campus lecture (day, evening, and/or weekend) and online (traditional and accelerated); holding office hours; participating and completing course/program assessment activities; assisting in recruitment and retention activities of students to the School of Health Sciences, performing service activities for the profession, university, and community; assisting in the accreditation/certification process; engaging in scholarly research and producing creative activities consistent with the School of Health Sciences' expectations; completing other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Health Sciences.
Minimum Qualifications: The requirements for this position include:
- Doctoral degree in Health Administration/Health Management or Health Informatics or
- Doctoral degree in Business Administration/Management (or closely related field) with healthcare-related tested experience in at least two of the following areas as they apply to the US healthcare system:
managerial epidemiology diversity, equity, and inclusivity healthcare finance and/or healthcare economics healthcare information and/or informatics healthcare statistics and/or research
- ABD applicants pursuing doctoral degrees in areas listed above (with tested experience as mentioned above) may be considered if all doctoral degree requirements will be completed by January 1, 2023. If all degree requirements are not completed by that date, a term, non-tenure track appointment may be offered in accordance with University policy (http://policies.siu.edu/personnel_policies/chapter2/ch2-faps/conting.php).
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with undergraduate and graduate students; and/or working with groups from diverse backgrounds and/or; experience teaching US healthcare management/administration courses at the university level; and/or experience as a manager or supervisor within the last 5 years in a US healthcare organization resulting in direct industry-specific knowledge; and/or understanding of AUPHA certification processes will be given preference.
