Assistant/Associate Professor of MFT in the Department of Counseling & Marital and Family Therapy
Department Description:
The Department of Counseling & Marital and Family Therapy at the University of San Diego includes masters programs in Marital & Family Therapy (COAMFTE accredited) and Counseling (Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling specialization, both CACREP accredited). The MFT program size is approximately 70 students each year. Students in the program pursue their degrees full-time (two years) and many receive financial assistance. The Department and USD have a strong commitment to diversity, social justice, and global education, as well as evidence-based practices. Our student body is approximately 50% minority students and we have several grants to support historically underserved populations. SOLES is 22% Latinx and hopes to lead the university in the goal of becoming an HSI. The program has developed strong collaborative relationships with local agencies to provide an array of practicum sites in the local community. In addition, students are required to participate in at least one global education experience prior to graduation.
Detailed Description:
The Department of Counseling & Marital and Family Therapy at the University of San Diego invites applications for two full-time, open-rank, tenure-track positions with a 9-month academic appointment beginning in Fall 2023 in the Marital and Family Therapy Program. Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of Assistant or Associate Professor.
The successful applicant will be expected to teach core and specialization courses in the Marital and Family Therapy Program, as well as supervise students through the practicum course. Faculty members are also expected to demonstrate scholarly productivity, as reflected in publications, professional presentations, and research grants. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to student advising/mentoring, admissions, curriculum assessment and development, and general departmental and university service. The successful applicant will: contribute to the department's mission of providing outstanding teaching, research, and service; have an appreciation of diverse constituencies and add to the department's commitment to diversity; have the ability to collaborate productively with students and faculty at USD; have strong oral and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills.

Job Requirements:
The faculty is seeking individuals who have demonstrated strong teaching skills and the ability to develop a coherent research agenda. Candidates for this position must meet the following minimum criteria:
- an earned doctorate in Marital and Family Therapy from a COAMFTE accredited program. ABD candidates will be considered, but must complete degree requirements by date of appointment
- demonstrated evidence of scholarly productivity (i.e., publications, presentations, and/or grant funding)
- evidence of strong or potential for graduate-level teaching
- evidence of strong or potential for relational/systemic clinical supervision
- AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Candidate eligible
- California LMFT license eligible
- demonstrate a strong commitment to multiculturalism and social justice
Preferred qualifications for the position include:
- manuscripts published in national refereed family therapy journals
- clinical experience working as a practicing LMFT
- demonstrated evidence of/potential for grant writing
- demonstrated evidence of leadership skills
- commitment to promoting diversity and social justice as part of one’s research agenda
- Has prior experience providing bilingual/bicultural clinical supervision in English/Spanish
