The Institute for Humane Studies offers sabbatical research fellowships and support for course buyouts, research expenses, and hosting events to scholars working on Business and Society and other related themes.
Course Buyout Support — Faculty can request funds to buy out one or more courses to help prepare work for publication. Full sabbatical support is also available based on need and the expected influence of the work.
Research Expense Support — IHS supports activities directly related to publishing research, including copy editing and indexing, research assistance, data set purchases, travel for conference presentations, and much more.
Event Support — IHS can help fund your on-campus and online events, including manuscript workshops, reading groups, on-campus conferences, lectures, and more.
IHS also provides Graduate Sabbatical Grants to PhD candidates (ABD) to free up their time for a semester. We suggest that sabbatical applications be submitted at least three months before the semester begins.
IHS is particularly interested in providing support for research projects across the following focus areas:
Immigration and Freedom • Business and the Good Society
Liberalism, Pluralism, and Democracy • Free Speech and Open Inquiry
Equality and Prosperity • Race in America • Peace and International Cooperation
