Position Overview

This position will be a One-Year academic appointment, with the possibility of transitioning to a long-term contract. It combines overseeing pre-service teacher field experiences with teaching accompanying coursework in methods and professional skills.

The Secondary Field Experience Coordinator organizes and oversees the School of Education’s secondary education field components of the Teacher Education Program. This involves procuring appropriate placements for all pre-service teachers each semester, direct supervision of the university supervisors, and trouble-shooting responsibilities when there are challenges and difficulties in the field concerning pre-service teachers.  The Coordinator is responsible for all secondary field experience placements within the teacher education program with area school corporations. This involves direct communication with area schools’ superintendents and principals in determining appropriate placements within their schools.  The Secondary Field Experience Coordinator also teaches accompanying field experience coursework and co-teaches secondary methods coursework. This position will also be involved in the recruitment of potential students in the field of Education.

Regular presence on campus is important to our mission and is therefore expected.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

·        Teach courses which accompany field experiences at the undergraduate and graduate level (2 courses per semester) and co-teach secondary methods coursework (1 course in fall semester).

·        Serve as professor of record for the teaching component of Teacher Education Programs.

·        Find compatible placements for student-teachers with cooperating teachers in partnership schools. Supervise individual student-teachers during their capstone semester. ·        Provide organization and guidance for cooperating teachers. Provide professional development for student-teachers at the beginning, during, and at the conclusion of the student-teaching experience. Supervise university supervisors, students, and administrative assistants.

·        Recruit, interview, and recommend university supervisors for hire and dismissal to the Dean. Counsel and mediate with student-teachers, university supervisors, and cooperating teachers regarding problems that arise during student-teaching.

·        Gather data from our student-teachers, cooperating teachers, and university supervisors, and analyze that data to help make improvements in the program.

·        Communicate directly with area schools’ superintendents and principals in determining appropriate placements within their schools.

·        Perform other-related duties (i.e., teaching, supervision, committees, etc. and other duties each semester, as assigned by the Dean of Education.)
