Senior Investment Operations Manager



Job Summary:
The Senior Investment Operations Manager accomplishes the objectives of the Chief Investment Office (CIO) through the implementation and management of operations supporting the investment management functions of TCU. The senior investment operations manager develops, evaluates, and administers procedures and systems, as well as University policies; acts as a participatory leader for executing the operational aspects of the investment process and supervising office staff; is responsible for managing the business relationships with internal resources that are connected to the Endowment, which include accounting, advancement, audit, Chancellor’s office, finance, and tax; and represents the CIO’s office with external audiences including the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Serves as the senior-most individual responsible for TCU’s investment operations and the day to day operations of the CIO office.
2. Provides hands-on leadership to the Investment Operations team and assumes responsibility for all non-investment functions. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the management of TCU’s investment operations processes and the mitigation of operational risks.
3. Oversees all of the operations management functions in the office and promotes institutional best practices as well as ensures compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
4. Leads the monthly portfolio reconciliation process across TCU systems to ensure data quality.
5. Refines and develops reports in coordination with the investment team.
6. Proactively supports the TCU audit process with the required documentation, schedules, and analysis needed.
7. Monitors and serves as the direct contact with custodian bank and other service providers to ensure compliance with contract terms and that TCU’s standards for deliverables have been met.
8. Develops and maintains appropriate policies for the office and investment management activities.
9. Assists with the operational due diligence on existing and prospective opportunities including facilitation of legal documents for new fund investments, and providing feedback to the investment team on key terms, legal risks, and suitability of structure.
10. Represents TCU and the Investment Management office through speaking engagements both within and outside of TCU.
11. Serves as a liaison to the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.
12. Oversees special projects by developing, planning and directing the process; acting as liaison between the CIO’s office, and internal and external groups, offices, and constituents.
13. Supervises, mentors, and trains junior staff members, including student interns.
14. Screens calls and visitors and directs them through proper channels to address their needs and/or independently gathers information on confidential issues which must be addressed at the Vice Chancellor or CIO level.
15. Maintains staff confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
16. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience :
• Bachelor’s degree.
• 10 years’ experience on an institutional asset management platform; relevant work experience may include, but is not limited to, prior roles at an endowment, foundation, family office, Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) or other sophisticated investment platforms.
• 3 years’ supervisory experience with a strong focus on investment operations.

Preferred Education & Experience:
• MBA or other advanced degree.
• Direct experience in asset servicing at a custodian bank or administrator.
• Proven leadership experience working with custodian banks, auditors, and legal counsel.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
• Valid Texas driver’s license.
• Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:
• CPA/J.D./CFA/CIPM

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of modern databases, reporting, and analytical tools that are common in asset management.
• Knowledge of investments across multiple asset classes, including listed securities, marketable alternatives, private equity, private credit, real estate, minerals, and direct investments.
• Knowledge of performance measurement, attribution, risk analysis, and reporting.
• Knowledge of job-related policies and regulations.
• Knowledge of budget development and monitoring procedures.
• Knowledge of customer service techniques accompanied by appropriate response to a wide variety of situations.
• Skill in effective planning and organization and a proven ability to work independently and under time constraints.
• Skill in communication and presentation, both spoken and written.
• Skilled in some or all components of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows navigation skills.
• Ability to produce and ensure the accuracy of performance, risk, and exposure reporting.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Ability to review and make recommendations to improve and streamline operations.
• Ability to train and lead staff.
• Ability to work well independently as well as on a team and with a wide variety of people.
• Ability to apply University policy in a wide variety of situations.
• Ability to evaluate and take independent action to improve operations manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Ability to draft grammatically correct correspondence.
• Ability to travel to domestic and international locations.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.

• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.

Work Environment:
• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on-campus, in-person position, but does require some domestic and international travel.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
