Classification Title:

Postdoctoral Associate

Job Description:

We are seeking a post-doctoral to assist with a new national consortium project (NIH RE-JOIN - https://www.niams.nih.gov/grants-funding/supported-scientific-programs/restoring-joint-health-and-function-reduce-pain-re) to map changes in innervation patterns with health and disease. This project will involve samples from rodent models, as well as donated tissues from clinical services. This individual will help to understand how shifts in joint innervation relate to symptomatic pain, tracking changes in innervation related to age and chronic joint degeneration (such as osteoarthritis and temporomandibular joint disorders). Prior experience with rodent surgeries and behavioral testing would be useful, but not required, as we are able to train these skills in new staff.

Expected Salary:

$55,000-60,000, depending on experience. Position will follow the NIH NRSA pay scale.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. degree in a biomedical sciences field, such as biochemistry, pathology, physiology, or biomedical engineering. Other degree fields will also be considered if the applicant has skill sets that complement our research team. Applicants must have experience with manuscript preparation and submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

Dr. Allen’s research focuses on understanding complex interactions between different physiologic systems within the context of knee osteoarthritis. The centering question for his laboratory is how does the degeneration of the articular joint lead to joint pain and disability. The laboratory employs multiple scientists with broad expertise across medical research; thus, applicants must be able and willing to collaborate with other lab members with a broad range of scientific expertise that spans biomechanics, biomaterials, neural engineering, image processing, behavioral analyses, and medical imaging.

For this position, applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. degree in a biomedical sciences field, such as biochemistry, pathology, physiology, or biomedical engineering. Other degree fields will also be considered if the applicant has skill sets that complement our research team. Experience with grant writing and mentoring students is not required, but is desirable.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Applicants send a CV, a brief statement of interest, and contact information for two references to Dr. Allen at kyle.allen@bme.ufl.edu . Review of applications will start immediately.

Final candidate will be required to provide official transcript to the hiring department upon hire. A transcript will not be considered “official” if a designation of “Issued to Student” is visible. Degrees earned from an education institution outside of the United States are required to be evaluated by a professional credentialing service provider approved by National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), which can be found at http://www.naces.org/ .
