Job Description:

The University of Florida is recruiting for a registered Pharmacy Technicians at its UF Veterinary Hospitals location. Veterinary pharmacy is a niche specialty that treats canines, felines, horses, iguanas, and every exotic species in between. We are actively seeking a pharmacy technician who is passionate about veterinary patient safety, enjoys a fast-paced, diverse environment, and is highly motivated. Our pharmacy functions as both a hospital and retail environment. A typical day involves general prescription processing, sterile and nonsterile compounding, and support for automated dispensing cabinets. Shifts typically fall Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 am and 5:30 pm, UFVH holidays off. This position requires a criminal background check and a current registered pharmacy technician license in good standing.
This is a time-limited position.

This is a very important position for the Veterinary Hospital and Pharmacy Department. This person will assist the Pharmacist in operating all phases of the University of Florida Veterinary Hospitals Pharmacy as well as the Small Animal Hospital Director with all aspects of OMNICELL supply inventory control. The Pharmacy supports the entire hospital.

Pharmacy support:
• Assists in inputting and preparing prescribed drugs for veterinary patients.
• Retrieves orders, completes data entry, labels, records price data, and assists in preparing nonsterile and sterile medications for compounding.
• Delivers drugs for inpatient fills to veterinary patient care areas.
• Retrieves drug orders for hospital floor stock and cost centers per service order, preparing for pharmacist check.
• Assists in maintaining pharmacy files and records, as required by State and Federal Law, and by Pharmacy policies and procedures.
• Actively participates in Continuous Quality Assurance program for pharmacy.

Inventory support:
• Independently retrieves drugs for OMNIcell restocks for pharmacist check.
• Assists with maintaining OMNICELL pharmaceutical and supply inventory and reconciling associated transactions.
• Assists in ordering, maintaining and estimating demand for Pharmaceutical inventories.
• Rotates stock and removes outdates from pharmacy shelves.

Customer Service and Communication:
• Collects client payments and processes credit payments for pharmaceuticals purchased and mailed.
• Resolves transaction questions in cooperation with client services, staff, and other hospital services.
• Collaborates with coworkers and staff to continuously improve and streamline processes.
• Communicates with pharmacy team to prioritize prescription workflows, and adjust to emergencies and immediate patient care need.
• Communicates with clients regarding veterinary prescriptions, under pharmacist supervision, and documents communications in patient record.
• Familiarizes and assist students, residents, and clinicians with available veterinary pharmaceuticals and supplies.

Expected Salary:

$18.45 - $21.45 hourly commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and six months of pharmacy experience. Must be a Registered Pharmacy Technician in accordance with Chapter 465.014, Florida Statutes.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Strong mathematics skills.
  3. Ability to work in data bases (Excel) and word processing programs (Word).
  4. Must be able to work in close environment under direct supervision for an eight hour work day.
  5. Prior pharmacy experience desirable: Both Retail and Hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Veterinary Pharmacy experience strongly preferred. Prior experience working with automated dispensing machines strongly preferred.
  6. A high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or Vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  7. Excellent Customer service skills
