Associate Application Analyst - Facilities Management & Campus Services (FMCS)

Carnegie Mellon University’s Facilities Management & Campus Services (FMCS) department is searching for an Associate Application Analyst to join the team! This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing application and systems support for a variety of business functions specific to our operations. You will train and support clients in the use of applications.

This position will support FMCS hardware systems and applications, which include University Stores, Copy Centers, Parking & Transportation Services, Postal Services, Printing and Mailing Services, Receiving and Warehouse, and Facilities Operations.

Core responsibilities will include:
  • Administer and support a variety of business applications.
  • Support PI administrator in using PI facility metrics application.
  • Work with third-party vendors to support business applications.
  • Investigates and resolves user problems and answers user questions regarding hardware, software, server applications and networking. Maintains communications with end users and programmers/vendors to reach satisfactory resolution of problems.
  • Writes end-user application documentation and trains customers in the use of applications.
  • Ability to diagnose and solve computer security issues.
  • Support a variety of specialized IT equipment.
  • Troubleshoot network connection issues. Ability to determine the effects of security implementation and rules in firewalls.
  • Write simple queries or edit code. Understand database structures.
  • Manage hardware life cycle for departmental IT equipment.
  • Use of web editors, FTP, and web publishing software. Content writing and design skill. General knowledge of computer and networking systems.
  • Understanding of computer networking. Knowledge of general office software, such as MS Office, Gmail, and Google Products.
  • Manage server certificates.
  • Support the administration of the OSISoft’s PI application to support the PI system administrator.
  • Independently troubleshoot and support multiple business applications including work management, timekeeping, point of sale applications, and others.
  • Track inventory and electronic equipment recycling.
  • Respond to IT issues for business-specific devices, including time clocks, parking gates, cash registers, building controllers, VM servers, as well as typical and non-standard user devices.
  • Participates in the design of testing procedures and in the actual testing of new applications.
  • Provides technical assistance in the preparation of requests for proposals related to systems or records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
You must demonstrate:
  • Requires wide range of mobility, i.e., ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach, bend at waist, grasp and pick up objects, maneuver in cramped areas, perform minor repairs to equipment, stand for long periods of time, lift, and carry equipment and other heavy materials up to 50 lbs. upstairs and pull and push carts up to 150 lbs. Work in university offices, mechanical rooms, parking garages, indoors and outdoors. Routine exposure to computer and audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to work well with others and/or as part of a team.
  • Ability to respond to urgent situations.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information, maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain composure when dealing with difficult situations and/or individuals. May work during high stress, crowded situations that include students, staff, faculty, and the public.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Visual acuity to perform activities such as extended use of a computer monitor, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines, using measurement devices, and/or assembly of parts at distances close to the eye.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field required
  • 1-3 years’ experience in technical support for clients using a variety of devices and applications
  • Equivalent experience and/or education may be considered in lieu of degree
