Senior Development Officer


Opening Details

The Williams College Development Office is more than a little sad to announce an opening for a Senior Development Officer reporting to the Director of Major Giving. We’re sad because a giant among us is retiring. We’re also excited by the opportunity to hire a new team member who will bring their enthusiasm for connecting a passionate alumni and parent community with opportunities to support Williams’ talented and intellectually-curious students and faculty. We are seeking an energetic storyteller, great listener, relationship builder, strong writer and hyper-organized team-player to join a team dedicated to achieving ambitious fundraising goals that make the College’s highest aspirations possible. Williams College is currently launching several multi-year fundraising initiatives in support of the ideas laid out in the strategic plan .

Responsibilities

You will cultivate, solicit and steward donors capable of making gifts of $250,000 and higher and meaningfully engage the next generation of prospective philanthropists with the college. Your work is to design and execute strategies to move assigned prospective donors through the gift cycle by getting to know them, listening to their interests and concerns, connecting them with the institution in intentional and thoughtful ways, and inspiring them to make gifts that align with Williams’ priorities. You will close gifts and leave our donors feeling great about the impact they’re having on students and faculty. You will have the opportunity to lead special projects, ideate and execute on- and off-campus donor events, and collaborate with colleagues throughout the Williams community. We’re looking for a team-oriented professional with a sophisticated understanding of, and commitment to, the role and mission of a highly regarded private liberal arts college. The successful candidate will also understand and appreciate the deeply devoted nature of our alumni and parent community.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and experience in nonprofits or higher education
  • Exceptional, multifaceted communication skills - oral, written and listening
  • Demonstrated autonomy in progressively complex professional roles
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to connect and partner with a range of people including senior staff, sophisticated donors, and volunteers
  • Very strong organizational skills and attention to details are essential
  • Direct experience soliciting, negotiating and closing major gifts, comprehensive campaign experience, and knowledge of current fundraising trends and best practices is preferred
