Aquatic Coordinator



Position Summary

The Aquatic Coordinator will serve as a leader within the Recreation Center, work closely with the Assistant Director to manage the lifeguard team, provide great customer service, and maintain cleanliness and order of the Aquatic Center.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee daily operations and programming of the aquatic center
  • Oversee scheduling and staffing of lifeguards and head lifeguards
  • Hire, train and supervise lifeguards including tracking relevant certifications for staff
  • Assist with in-services trainings, emergency action plan implementation and student development
  • Serve as first point of contact for personnel and pool management
  • Develop and coordinate aquatic programming including student events
  • Supports the Assistant Director with the development and management of the Learn-To-Swim program
Additional Functions / Information
  • Recommend improvements to policies and procedures as needed
  • Assist the department with evaluating the emergency action plan and make changes as necessary
  • Monitors effective allocation of resources and adherence to standards for the Aquatic Center
  • Assists the Assistant Director with facility operations and compliance of health code
  • Teach classes and collaborate on all aquatic staff scheduling and equipment for the Summer Youth Activity Program
  • Lifeguard as needed, based on staff scheduling and pool hours
Education Required

Bachelor's Degree

Field of Study

Recreation administration, exercise science, physical education, facility management or related field.

Experience Required

1 year

Type of Experience

Experience working in campus recreation and/or sport/recreation aquatic program management.

Skills Required

- Organizational and interpersonal skills

- Conflict resolution skills, initiative and creative thinking

- Maintain a professional image and have good written, oral, and presentation skills

- Ability to make sound judgments and decisions in a calm manner

- Knowledge of database systems and web ‐ based applications as it relates to the program

License / Certification Required

- Lifeguard Certification.

Education Preferred

Master's degree in sport or recreation management, recreation administration, facility management or related field.

Experience Preferred

Experience in a similar position in higher education or two years’ experience in aquatic program management. Supervisory experience, including the ability to recruit, train, motivate and supervise staff. Experience maintaining commercial pools.

License / Certification Preferred

- Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator

- LGI

- Aquatic facility management experience

Physical Demands

- Must be able to lift objects 30+ lbs

Working Conditions

- Job requires frequent work in outside environment, including hot summer months

- Handling chemicals for pump room operations

- Occasional nights and weekends as needed
