The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, a CAA-accredited program in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), at the University of Houston seeks applicants for a twelve- month, non-tenure-track instructional faculty position effective Fall 2023. Instructional faculty are full members of the department faculty and are expected to demonstrate excellence in the areas of classroom instruction, clinical education, clinical practice, and departmental/university service.

The department supports faculty through opportunities for professional development and promotes engagement regionally, nationally, and internationally. Minimum qualifications include earned doctorate in speech-language pathology or related field, ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence, current eligibility for Texas state licensing as a speech-language pathologist, three years direct clinical experience in SLP, and documented completion of ASHA continuing education requirement for supervision. Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate/graduate courses, providing SLP services and clinical education in a university speech-language-hearing clinic setting, and fulfilling assigned service roles. There is a preference for specialties in the areas of fluency, dysphagia, or aural rehabilitation. Bilingual skills (Spanish) are beneficial. However, all strong applicants will be considered.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders ( www.class.uh.edu/comd ) has approximately 300 undergraduate and 80 graduate students. Degrees offered include B.A. and B.S. degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders, an M.A. degree in Speech-Language Pathology, and a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Additionally, the department offers a post-baccalaureate leveling program. Our on-campus clinic and outreach centers provide services to the greater Houston area that represent diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds, ages, disorders and etiologies.
