Open Rank Faculty - Integrated Physiology - (FAC002588)



The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Houston is seeking an exercise physiologist with demonstrable academic skills for a tenure or tenure track faculty position. The intent is to hire at Associate Professor rank, but applications from all ranks will be reviewed and considered. The position is a 9-month appointment with optional summer term teaching possible. Effective date of appointment will be Fall 2023.

The successful candidate is expected to maintain a rigorous and productive scholarly research program that will foster acquisition of external funding, generate high-quality research publications, and enhance graduate student recruitment and training. Additional responsibilites include teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses in exercise science, phyical fitness, or kinesiology, and perform service to the department, college, university and in the profession.

Applicants are sought who can both complement and expand existing research capabilities within the department’s expertise, as well as applicants who can collaborate with individuals across the University’s departments, colleges, and centers. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate potential to engage in cooperative research projects with other medical, community, and/or governmental agencies located in Houston and nationally. Applicants are required to (i) have an active, externally funded research program related to exercise or physical activity that strengthens/broadens our current research areas; (ii) show a consistent record of disseminating scholarly work through publications in high-impact journals and presentations at major scientific meetings; and (iii) display a commitment to university-level teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Preference will be given to individuals who have expertise in exercise research in special populations. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications :

A Ph.D. with a focus in integrated physiology is required (for example, exercise physiology or exercise science, physiology, immunology, oncology, biochemistry, nutrition, physical activity, or any related exercise physiology field).
