Job Title: Associate Dean for SIT Graduate Institute

Reports to: Dean of Faculty

Location: Brattleboro, VT / remote work is possible

General Description: World Learning seeks an Associate Dean to provide academic and operational support to the Dean of Faculty for the SIT Graduate Institute portfolio consisting of face-to-face master’s degrees located in SIT program centers across the world, low residency master’s degrees, and an EdD. The Associate Dean ensures effective and consistent implementation of the academic vision of the Dean of Faculty for SIT Graduate Institute while directly supporting the graduate chairs in the planning, administration, and delivery of their programs.

Responsibilities

Support the Dean of Faculty’s vision in:

  • Program development of Global Masters and doctoral programs
  • Development of Centers of Excellence
  • Curriculum and program review
  • Teaching quality performance reviews
  • Faculty research projects and funding
  • Implementation of SIT’s academic project on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Academic policy development, implementation, and review
  • Other strategic priorities or special projects as assigned

Provide support for the operation of graduate programs:

  • Ensure appropriate resourcing for graduate programs
  • Organize and chair regular graduate program meetings and retreats
  • Support the resolution of student appeals/concerns
  • Ensure consistency and organization of student orientations
  • Oversee summer residencies in Vermont
  • Onboard and mentor new chairs with the implementation of new degrees, including practicum
  • Onboard and support adjunct faculty in coordination with the Office of the Dean of Faculty
  • Support recruitment activities to ensure healthy enrollment (in liaison with marketing and university relations) 
  • Provide effective external and internal communications on behalf of the Graduate Institute and the Dean of Faculty
  • Liaise with the Dean of Assessment and Learning Support in preparing institutional self-study reports and other assessment and accreditation activities
  • Liaise with the Office of Research and Sponsored programs to support graduate faculty research projects

Requirements

  • Terminal degree required in a relevant discipline
  • Graduate-level teaching experience and familiarity with US higher education system and its students
  • Teaching and publications that would merit the rank of associate professor or higher (full professor preferred)
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting access, diversity, equity and inclusivity in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to travel on short notice
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Doctoral level teaching and/or supervision experience
  • Background in public health or environmental studies/science
  • Demonstrated experience in online teaching
  • Experience working in a second country
  • Communication skills in at least one another language
  • Experience participating in institutional accreditation and assessment
  • Grant writing and management experience
