Job Description

The School of Education, Social Work and Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) announces its search for a Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor (ranked non-tenure-track) to serve as Director of Community Counseling and Assessment Services (CCAS) in the Department of Counseling and Counseling Psychology. This is a 12-month, benefit eligible position starting in the Spring 2023 semester.

The individual selected for the position will join a dedicated and collaborative group of faculty and staff. Their primary duties will involve overseeing operations of CCAS, a community mental health clinic that provides individual, couples, group, and family counseling to low income, urban, and individually and culturally diverse clientele and is staffed by counselors and psychologists in training and located within the Department of Counseling and Counseling Psychology. They will also supervise trainees and/or teach classroom-based graduate courses in counseling and psychology, will serve on the core faculty of the School’s master’s program in counseling, and will contribute to the doctoral program in psychology. We are particularly interested in candidates with skills in neuropsychological or other forms of assessment who can teach assessment courses, including supervising assessment practica.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Center, including coordinating clinic staff (trainees) and graduate assistants. Work collaboratively with department chair and program coordinators on addressing clinic issues.
  • Monitor CCAS income and expenses, working with department and unit staff to process transactions.
  • Cultivate referral sources and facilitate the visibility of CCAS in the community and across campus.
  • Collaborate with department faculty, the unit development officer, and other faculty and staff to generate CCAS revenue through grants, contracts, and/or philanthropic gifts
  • Teach one graduate class each in the fall, spring, and summer semesters as aligned with professional qualifications, which may include (though is not limited to) counseling or clinical practicum courses and/or assessment practica.
  • Attend faculty meetings, advise master’s students, and engage in service to the degree programs, department, unit, and campus as relevant to the position.
  • Schedule and facilitate Advisory Board meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology, or another terminal degree in a mental health field, from an accredited university
  • License to practice in a relevant mental health field, or eligibility for a license to practice, in the State of Missouri
  • Demonstrated experience providing mental health services, including counseling and/or assessment
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in a college/university setting at a level appropriate to rank
  • Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision at a level appropriate to rank
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to differences, including social justice and urban issues
  • Demonstrated competence in serving diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
Full Time/Part Time

This is a 12-month, full-time, benefit eligible ranked academic faculty position starting in the Spring 2023 semester. There is opportunity for ranked promotion.

The School of Education, Social Work and Psychological Sciences serves as a major institutional partner to school districts and community agencies across the metropolitan area. The Master’s degree in Counseling is accredited by the Master’s in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council, with a site visit scheduled in 2024. Doctoral programs in counseling psychology and clinical psychology are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association.

CCAS believes that everyone should be able to afford counseling and assessment services. CCAS offers counseling, testing and assessment services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Since the early 1970's, CCAS has grown to meet the needs of our community, providing counseling and assessment services to approximately 200 clients a year, including residents of Jackson, Johnson, Wyandotte, Cass and Clay counties.
