Position Information

Position Title Full-time Research Assistant in Biology Overview
The Soto Lab in the Biology Department of Providence College invites applications for a Research Assistant Position, funded by NIH and NSF . The Research Assistant will provide research support and serve as a laboratory manager for the Dr. Soto’s neuroscience laboratory, comprising approximately 9-10 undergraduate students. The Laboratory Research Assistant will be responsible for performing research activities that include histological, cellular, and molecular experimentation using mouse models of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible to perform and supervise in vitro studies (cell cultures, basic molecular biology, and biochemical experiments), in vivo animal experiments (behavioral tests, tissue dissection, and histology); mouse colony management, for record-keeping related to the colony, and for communicating with other lab members regarding the colony status. The position also includes the maintenance of equipment and lab spaces, specimen collection and processing. Essential Duties: Marginal Duties: Education and Experience Required
Related and relevant laboratory experience is a plus, but not necessary. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience working with animals in a laboratory setting is a plus.
