Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Early Childhood Education The University of Northern Iowa's department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education seeks applicants for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track or tenure eligible appointment as an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Early Childhood Education, starting in August 2023, with demonstrated experience in early childhood education, early intervention, and early childhood special education, as well as a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice through the preparation of preservice and inservice teachers.

This position is responsible for teaching undergraduate, post-baccalaureate endorsement coursework, and graduate courses in early childhood and/or early childhood special education; coordinating programs; collaborating with local schools, agencies, and service providers; providing field-based supervision; advising graduate students; engaging in scholarly activity and research pertinent to early childhood education and/or related fields such as early childhood special education; and providing service to the department, college, university, community and profession at large. The department of Curriculum & Instruction (Early Childhood); provides education, advocacy, and leadership at the local, state, and national level.

The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or a closely related field. Required qualifications include experience teaching birth to age 8 with at least three years teaching infants, toddlers, or preschoolers in inclusive or natural environments; experiences that maximize strengths of all learners, integrating play and developmentally appropriate practices, and using evidence-based practices to support child development and learning, especially for those from culturally and linguistically diverse families; a strong knowledge base of current best practice and experience teaching a variety of courses in a unified Birth to Grade 3 program that blends early childhood and early childhood special education; and an established record in, or the potential for excellence in, research and a clear research agenda in the field of early education or early childhood special education.

Preference will be given to candidates with three or more years of licensed experience teaching young children (birth - age 8) who are typically developing, have special needs, and are dual language learners; familiar with the early childhood education system in Iowa; successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level; successful experience in teaching face-to-face and online formats; knowledge of early childhood professional standards and inclusive, developmentally appropriate practices, including early intervention in natural environments and competence in interdisciplinary collaboration; demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: STEM curriculum design, project approach, linguistically and culturally diverse populations, and early intervention; experience with program coordination at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including student outcome assessments, recruitment, and program evaluation; a commitment to partnerships with local schools and community organizations; and demonstrated leadership and service at the local, state, and national levels.
