The City University of New York (CUNY) is seeking a Research Integrity and Compliance Analyst for the Office of Research (OR). This research professional performs specialized analytical and operational work supporting OR’s Research Integrity and Compliance division to help ensure CUNY research is being conducted ethically and in adherence with evolving city, state and federal guidelines. Reporting to the University Executive Director for Research Integrity and Compliance, the Research Compliance Analyst will assist the division staff as a generalist across several research compliance domains, including conflicts of interest (COI), human subjects (HRPP), responsible conduct of research (RCR), export controls, agreements, and sponsored projects. They will support the review of researcher protocols, agreements, and deliverables; training efforts for CUNY-wide stakeholders; quality assurance and improvement programs; internal monitoring efforts; implementation of electronic management systems; University-wide compliance convenings; and direct guidance to researchers, students, and fellow administrators.

In a single integrated university system of 25 colleges and schools, the CUNY Office of Research is responsible for the strategic design of university-wide initiatives aimed at building research capacity for members of the CUNY community, from students to senior faculty. Their research, scholarly, and creative pursuits are supported through three OR divisions: Research Development and Programs; Innovation and Entrepreneurship; and Research Integrity and Compliance. Jointly, these divisions encourage collaborative and transdisciplinary research innovations; foster startups and commercialization both within and beyond the CUNY community; and ensure adherence to the standards that govern research ethics and sponsored program administration.

In addition to the job summary above and CUNY Title Overview below, other essential duties include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Perform preliminary reviews of submitted research materials to ensure completeness and accuracy (e.g.human subjects and conflicts of interest).

  • Support determinations of researcher protocols that meet the regulatory criteria for IRB exemption.

  • Maintain electronic research administration systems and platforms with relevant compliance functions.

  • Serve as a communications liaison between compliance committees and researchers across CUNY.

  • Assist with developing and implementing new or modified research compliance policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate the streamlining and automation of internal compliance processes and operations.

  • Participate in collaborative activities that strengthen cooperation between and among the Central Office and college-based compliance units.

  • Provide general analytical and administrative support to division staff members, particularly the University Executive Director for Research Integrity and Compliance.

NOTES: 1) Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office. 2) Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM

Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required.

PREFERRED

  • Advanced degree in an academic, research, legal, management, or directly related discipline.

  • Prior relevant and full-time equivalent research compliance experience.

  • Knowledge of current government, sponsor, and industry laws, regulations, and requirements for research compliance.

  • Ability to provide guidance and training to stakeholders on the interpretation and application of regulations and requirements for research activities.

  • Ability to manage highly-sensitive information and confidential materials discretely.

  • Thorough and accurate approach with strong research, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills to draft clear reports, communications and presentations.

  • Proactive and collaborative work style with strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills to work effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff, researchers, and external partners.

  • Dependable with effective organizational, time management and prioritization skills to manage multiple assignments and projects and meet deadlines, and thrive in a demanding and multi-faceted office.

  • Computer proficiency using research, academic, administrative, and financial systems, databases, and programs, plus Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs, and remote/virtual meeting and collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, WebEx, Skype, etc.)
