Associate Director - Faculty Affairs & HR Administration

About the Opportunity

Within the College of Science (COS), the Associate Director of Human Resources and Faculty Affairs oversees personnel needs for our operational staff, research staff, and faculty populations. The Associate Director is both a leader and a doer - advising COS leadership, creatively designing solutions on-the-go, managing a team, and handling a personal portfolio of staff and faculty assignments.

Specifically, the Associate Director will be part of operations team in the Office of the Dean, reporting to the Associate Dean of Administration and Finance but partnering closely with other COS leadership. The Associate Director and supporting staff will be charged with supporting employees (faculty and staff) within Northeastern, as well as assisting COS units and hiring managers with the full employee lifecycle from position creation to recruitment, navigating immigration matters as appropriate with the Office of General Counsel, overseeing hiring, performance management, promotions, employee relations, and separations. Working in concert with partners in University Human Resources, the Office of the Provost, and related University units, the Associate Director will be a key figure to ensuring the healthy and sustainable growth and management of COS faculty and staff populations.

Additionally, COS HR uses a portfolio model of assignments to partner team members with assigned departments and units within the College to better build the relationship between the Dean's Office and the component parts of the College. The Associate Director will have a small portfolio of personal responsibility within this model, to compliment their management responsibilities.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree required.
  • A minimum of seven years professional work experience in human resources, faculty affairs or closely related field required.
  • Capability to handle sensitive material and maintain highest level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated skill in management, supervision, increasing engagement, and assessment.
  • Exemplary leadership, communication, time management, and organizational skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience in Workday preferred, experience in enterprise-level HR software systems required.

The College of Science maintains a strong culture of collaboration amongst our faculty and staff: successful candidates will demonstrate a respect for the work of their colleagues and a focus on achieving our shared goals in a highly collaborative manner.
