Job Summary

Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner ! The PMHNP position provides direct mental health services to university students, including crisis intervention. This role conducts psychiatric evaluations and psychiatric follow-up appointments, provides consultation to a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, LPC’s, and interns, collaborates with CAPS staff on all aspects of clinical service delivery, ensures accurate and timely EHR documentation of the assessment, treatment and referral processes as they occur, collaborates with campus departments as is appropriate for the treatment of CAPS patients, and ensures that issues of Diversity and Social Justice are considered in all assessment, treatment, referral, and training services provided.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Clinical
  • New psychiatric evaluations, follow-up appointments, and crisis care.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests and review critical lab results.
  • Psychiatric consultations to medical providers at CAPS and Medical Services (including MDs, NPs, RNs).
  • Staff consultation with non-medical CAPS providers (including psychologists, social workers, LPCs, LMFTs).
  • Provide after-hours psychiatry coverage as needed.
  • Complete medical records in a timely manner, in alignment with department policies.
  • Provide telepsychiatry services in compliance with CAPS policies and procedures.
  • Provide supervision to the psychiatry trainees and junior medical staff.
Administrative
  • Follow all CAPS guidelines around charting/documentation/billing/quality improvement.
  • Participate in Peer Reviews to ensure quality of care.
  • Represent CAPS in meetings, consultations, presentations, trainings, and committees.

What We Can Offer
  • The hiring range for this position is $90,000 - $111,240 annually.

What We Require
  • Master's of Science degree in Nursing from a program accredited by the American Nurses Association or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
  • Eligible for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
  • Eligibility to obtain medical liability insurance (as needed).
  • By Start Date:
    • Registration in the State of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
    • Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center.
    • Full Prescriptive Authority.


What You Will Need

  • Digital literacy including proficiency with Windows-based systems.
  • Outstanding communication skills and interpersonal skills.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • 2+ years of experience in psychiatric practice.
  • Ability to conduct sessions with patients in a language other than English; Spanish, Chinese, or Arabic preferred.
  • Experience working with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, international and underserved populations.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records.
  • Experience providing training, consultation, and supervision to trainees, residents, and junior-level psychiatrists and nurse practitioners.
  • Experience providing services through telepsychiatry.
  • Previous supervisory experience and/or an interest in training staff.
