Job Description Summary

Ensure Prince George’s Community College’s information systems and network are secure. This includes protecting the college against hackers and cyber-attacks, as well as monitoring network traffic and server logs for activity that seems unusual. Additionally, the analyst is responsible for finding vulnerabilities in the computer networks and creating recommendations for how to minimize these vulnerabilities. The IT security analyst investigates security incidents, develops strategies for security issues, and utilizes the help of firewalls, IDS, IPS and antivirus software to maintain security

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer technology, management information systems, business or related field
  • Minimum two years’ work experience in Systems administration (Windows/Linux), Network Engineering, web application security, relational database management
  • Experience in Information Security, Information Technology or related field.
  • Familiarity with security-related technologies including: Active Directory, Host-based firewalls, Host and Network based intrusion detection systems, Application white listing, Server configuration controls, Logging and monitoring tools, Antivirus tools, and Network monitoring
  • One-year experience addressing information security issues, to include penetration testing of web applications and mobile applications of both IOS and Android
  • Experience with open source or enterprise grade commercial tools for vulnerability assessment and penetration testing such as Nessus, Retina, Netwitness, Snort, ArcSight and other tools.
  • Active security industry certification such as Security+ preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of Unix and Linux command line.
  • Knowledge of Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2019
  • Knowledge of Wireshark or equivalent packet capture tool
  • Knowledge of NIST Frameworks such as 800-53 and 800-171
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools used to identify alerting actions and sessions to identify net flow.
  • System Experience with common industry vulnerability standards such as OWASP Top 10 and CWE / SANS Top 25

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

This position combines all aspects of monitoring and incident response on the same team. Team members will interact with the malware analysis team, and all aspects of the incident analysis process.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments of network and systems using a combination of penetration testing of web and mobile applications.
  • Develop and communicate security analysis reports to develop test plans, system specifications, hardening guides, and other tools to assist in defense of exposed systems.
  • Monitors, identifies, and analyzes security risks to determine their impact and relevance to the College’s assets; conducts research, analyzes data, reaches conclusions, and makes recommendations for security enhancements and purchases
  • Analyzes potential information security events to determine exposure and root cause; prepares reports to document security incidents and their impact
  • Provides ongoing protection, detection, response and testing services for college information resources and digital assets
  • Conducts periodic penetration testing and vulnerability scans to assess the College’s information security position
  • Assists in the development and implementation of effective information security policies to ensure compliance control frameworks
  • Performs timely and thorough completion of Service Desk tickets and services requests
  • Maintains data retention policies
  • Stays abreast of information security issues, latest intelligence and regulatory changes affecting higher education at the state and national level; researches new technologies that will protect the network infrastructure from data loss and service interruptions
  • Assists with the College network as needed, installing firewalls, data encryption and other security measures
  • Assists in the development and ongoing maintenance of policies, procedures and documents required to maintain Payment Card Industry ( PCI ) compliance
  • Coordinates and analyzes vendor security documentation for technology purchases
  • Participates in security-related committees and task forces as assigned
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Monitors firewalls, IDS, IPS and antivirus software to maintain security.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp and some repetitive motions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to work Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
