Job Summary/Purpose:

To provide instruction in a range of engineering courses in support of engineering transfer programs. To participate in the design and delivery of courses for the transfer engineering program. Regular teaching assignments may include courses on and off campus and/or online delivered synchronously or asynchronously.

• This is a part-time (less than .50 FTE ) non-benefited position, hired on a term-by-term basis. Hours of work may include evening or weekend teaching assignments.
• Part-Time Instructor compensation begins at Step 1 / $628 per load unit (LU). Load Unit is not always equivalent to class credit; and shall include both teaching and other assignments.
• Part-Time Faculty positions are not represented by the Faculty Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• May include travel throughout the College district.
• Official transcripts are required upon hire. Applicants anticipating Degree completion must supply a letter from his/her university stating the degree title and that the degree will be granted by that date.
• COCC employees must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.
• The College is NOT able to support Visa applications for this position. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered for this position.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal background check and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.
• Effective Monday, April 18, 2022, COCC implemented a COVID -19 vaccination requirement for all employees, including benefited employees, part-time faculty, and temporary workers such as irregular wage, work study and community education. Upon hire, new employees will receive an email with instructions outlining how to upload proof of full COVID -19 vaccination or request a medical or religious exception.

Essential Functions:
  1. Provide instruction in Engineering, to include teaching Dynamics and/or Electrical Fundamentals, using approved course outcome guides. Teaching assignments may be during the day (including early morning), evening, or weekend, and could include classes taught at any of the College campuses, online or remotely.
  2. Hold at least five scheduled office hours per week for student help sessions and program assistance.
  3. Engage in regular professional growth activities, remain current in the field, and maintain current credentials or licensures as required by the program.
  4. Perform other essential job functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.   1. Thorough knowledge in engineering and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge.
  2. Ability to adapt and use a variety of teaching and assessment techniques including the use of technology to enhance student success.
  3. Ability to observe, direct, and oversee students ensuring safety in the classroom or laboratory.
  4. Ability to work with and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles.
  5. Ability to effectively use Microsoft office suite, various course management systems, technology to teach traditional, hybrid, or online courses and other technology used in the instruction setting.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members.
  7. Ability to provide services to students in a manner which does not discriminate as to race, creed, religion, color, national origin, disability, age, sex, sexual preference or marital status.
  8. Willingness to travel and or teach at various hours and campus locations, as required.
  9. Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and the willingness to work as a member of a team with faculty.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Work is performed in classroom and office environments with the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. The employee is regularly required to use computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary conversations. Computer screen is used frequently. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Travel throughout the College district as needed. A flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the position responsibilities. The employee is required to meet physical and ergonomic requirements of the program area as this may vary from positions. Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Master’s degree in Engineering or closely related field.
  2. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, or evidence for the potential for excellence in teaching.
  3. Coursework/teaching experience in teaching lower division engineering coursework.
