Brief Description of Duties

The Assessment Director will serve as an integral part of the student success efforts at the University of the District of Columbia - Community College. The incumbent will work closely with other offices and departments at UDC-CC and local schools to ensure student access and placement. This position reports to both the Dean of the UDC Community College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Creates an efficient testing system for UDC-CC (including multiple measures assessment protocols). Includes expanding testing to multiple sites across multiple locations, restructuring testing system to enable more students the opportunity to test in shorter periods of time. Improves scheduling process to ensure that the majority of students are tested prior to Orientation and Registration.
  • Leads intake analysis to establish procedures and systems that are rooted in student success. This analysis will include a review of all current processes and assessment tools.
  • Designs information and delivery system to inform students regarding assessment and the implications of testing. Creates brochures, memos, and/or other instructional information to promote the services offered by the testing center.
  • Creates a system to provide students with testing results electronically.
  • Leads effort to help students prepare for assessment and interpret testing results.
  • Directs and coordinates cross departmental employees, trains new proctors and other volunteers across multiple sites as needed for the purposes of ensuring compliance with established testing guidelines.
  • Investigates and responds to assessment testing questions, requests, and problems from students and faculty via in-person, phone or mail. Provides students with answers and strategies to resolve issues.
  • Provides superior customer service to all stakeholders. Responds to current and former student inquiries.
  • Researches and analyzes emerging trends in student testing and assessment for the purpose of providing additional information and/or recommendations to address the effectiveness and appropriateness of testing instruments.
  • Prepares a variety of materials in both manual and electronic formats (e.g. reports, memos, instructions, presentations, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Participate in committees, taskforce, and efforts related to student success, student assessment, rethinking developmental education, improving information delivery, customer service, and data collection.
  • Work with faculty and staff across various departments and offices to identify and implement improvements to the assessment tool and process.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Must possess high levels of technical competency.
  • Prior experience in student assessment preferred.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a 'satisfactory background investigation' is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
