Outreach Associate - School of Architecture

The Architecture Outreach Associate will support, advance, and expand the School of Architecture’s outreach initiatives and programming! They will report to the Director of Outreach Programs. Although hours may vary to meet demand, the Architecture Outreach Associate will work at least 12 hours and up to 17 hours per week, with an opportunity for this role to expand in the near future.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Editing and refining the curriculum for the Architecture Explorations Saturday Sequence, Summer Camps in collaboration with our ALN partners, and other CAE programs as necessary, with particular attention given to integrating into the curriculum national educational standards, the strengths and goals of the School of Architecture, and the unique opportunities offered by the City of Pittsburgh
• Supervision of student-instructors and collaborate on new educational materials
• Maintain state and federal clearances for work with minors, and be a responsible party for in-person and remote/digital programs throughout the school year and summer, leading programs themselves during weekdays and/or weekends as necessary
• Advance other School of Architecture and Architecture Learning Network programs by researching lesson topics, seeking additional funding sources, encouraging the participation of under-represented schools, and editing/revising the curriculum to align with state and national standards and the particular needs of each community
• Investigate ways to extend the program’s reach through, but not limited to, the creation of additional instructing materials and the development of new programs for K-12 educators
• Work with the Director of Outreach Programs to establish partnerships with architectural firms, non-profits, the city, and/or undergraduate studios
• Being conversant with trends in architecture, landscape, urban design, and sustainability as well as to current pedagogy to inform their work
• Significantly contribute to securing funding for the Center for Architecture Explorations and related programs and research
• Assist in marketing of the programs, management of communications, and establishing a national and international profile for Carnegie Mellon’s outreach initiatives, while encouraging partnerships
  

You should demonstrate:

• Strong Oral and written communication skills
• Strong organization and planning skills

Qualifications:

• Associate’s Degree in a related field
• Minimum 3-5 years professional experience in a related field
• Experience in writing grant proposals
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or urban design (BArch, MArch, BLA, MLA, MUD)
• A background in English, education, or a related field, helpful
• Minimum five years’ experience in academic program management, including specific experience developing and marketing educational programs, applying for and administering grants, writing curriculum, and collaborating with educators, academics, and funders
• Experience in social justice work, community engagement, collaborative design, design-build, project-based learning, inclusive learning spaces
• Experience in teaching studio-based architectural design
