JOB SUMMARY

The position of Director of Continuing Studies (CS) in the office of the Provost, is a university-wide position which is focused on program growth and new revenue generation for the University.  The position will create and develop new continuing studies and professional programs using market research and cross-school collaboration to identify emerging markets and potential industry partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop/create consistent programs (online and in person) to meet the needs of business and the community, designing or initiating the design of curriculum as required, specifically targeting non-degree seeking students, using a business plan to generate revenue above expenditures so as to cause CS to cover all of its salary and operational costs and to contribute funds for other programming by CS and to support other key university functions
  • Oversee registration, revenue accrual, and other program logistics
  • Identify and recruit faculty, including external subject matter experts, to provide instruction in CS programming
  • Present new such offerings on a regular basis to President’s Staff and other administrators as directed
  • Conduct and coordinate reviews of CS programs and implement findings into program strategies and content and the University’s strategic slan.
  • Build relationships with key community, corporate, and government constituencies in each program area
  • Conduct market research and needs assessments regarding viable continuing studies and professional program opportunities
  • Work with Institutional Advancement, Marketing, and Communications to ensure that CS and professional programs promote the University's reputation and visibility through effective marketing strategies
  • Be cognizant of, and responsible for, accreditation or approval requirements for the delivery of CS programming across all delivery formats
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated experience in creative and effective academic program development, and market analysis
  • Demonstrated leadership with an entrepreneurial spirit to identify emerging markets and potential industry partners
  • Demonstrated commitment to the University’s mission and values and work collaboratively with the deans and faculty of the other units to establish new areas of study utilizing traditional, hybrid and online formats
  • Demonstrated awareness of emerging trends in CS within higher education and online learning environments
  • Possess a substantive track record demonstrating success in leading, implementing, and evaluating innovative, sustainable continuing education and/or similar programs
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial vision supported by data driven decision making
  • Outstanding communication skills, with ability to communicate with both internal and external constituencies
  • Proven ability to manage staff and relationships-leading individuals to collaborate and achieve key organizational goals

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • PhD or Terminal degree in Higher Education, Education Administration, Education Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • 2+ years of experience in the development or implementation of CS or professional program platforms
  • 2+ years of experience managing instructional staff

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience in curricular and/or program development in higher education
  • 5+ years of experience managing instructional staff
  • Demonstrated experience with multiple delivery platforms (traditional, online and hybrid)
  • Familiarity with federal, regional and state accreditation requirements
  • Successful establishment of CS programming at another institution of higher learning

WORKING CONDITIONS/EQUIPMENT

Must perform the following essential functions with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  • Must be able to work on a computer, with or without accommodation, for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to travel on and off campus locations.

  • This is a full time, 1.0 FTE, exempt position, 12 months a year.
