Job Description:
Basic Function and Responsibility:
Support the payroll team by processing pension-related transactions as requested by the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) timely and in compliance with state law. Respond to requests for data from both the SURS agency as well as current or former employees. Research situations and propose resolutions.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process SURS certifications of all new hires or
rehires.
- Process Exits, Retirements, Separation Refunds, Service Credit
Audits, Prior Service, and Terminations whether prompted by SURS or
Oakton.
- Respond timely and thoroughly to inquiries from the SURS
agency.
- Research and respond to inquiries from current and previous
employees.
- Maintain list and processing termination of all Oakton prompted
events.
- Set up, maintain, and revise data collection tools such as
spreadsheets and databases.
- Support payroll and accounting management to monitor, revise,
and improve procedures for SURS related transactions and
maintenance.
- Prepare payroll and pension data for employees upon their
request.
- In accordance with state law and college policies and
procedures, process transactions of SURS. Research and appeal 6%
bills. Review SURS monthly reports, Active Member and Public Act
96-0889 and process changes into the payroll system.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Qualifications and Working Conditions:
- High school education or an equivalent combination of training
and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be
acquired is required. Education or training in accounting, finance,
or a related discipline preferred.
- Four years experience in accounting related office work
required with a demonstrated background in customer service and
multitasking. Direct payroll support experience
preferred.
- Direct experience with SURS or other retirement program
preferred.
- Intermediate level of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and experience in a fast paced
environment required.
- Ability to learn payroll and college procedures and policies in
order to accurately answer questions and resolve issues.
- Ability to learn advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to communicate/interact professionally and tactfully
with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds,
and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect
to fellow employees, the College community at large, and state
regulators.
- Must be able to handle all duties and information in a
confidential manner.
Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus. Work is performed in a general office environment and sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Supervision Received:
Function supervision is received from the Senior Manager of Payroll Operations. Administrative supervision is received from the Controller.

None
HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 5:00 pm
SALARY: $47,712
Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have remote or hybrid schedule options available. Please note, that during the 65 working day probationary period, employees are required to report to campus.
