Position Summary
The Department of Environment and Sustainability , University at Buffalo, seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor (state title: Clinical Assistant Professor 10) who is eager to play a key role in department programs.
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate or other appropriate terminal degree in sustainability, physical plant operations, sustainable engineering, architecture and planning, or other closely related field, in hand by the start of the appointment. The position requires demonstrated postsecondary teaching experience, as well as strong advising, mentorship, and student-centered approaches.
The Assistant Teaching Professor will primarily teach courses related to physical sustainability and carbon/energy accounting in the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Specializations in areas such as energy audits, carbon sequestration, construction, and green infrastructure are necessary, and candidates with computational and modeling skills are preferred. In addition to classroom instruction, the ability to lead field trips and experiential programs for assigned courses is necessary. Field-oriented components require candidate to be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
Further opportunities (depending on interest and aptitude) include advancing pedagogy and scholarship through attendance at professional meetings and mentoring student research projects.
The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester or engage in equivalent non-instructional duties, such as service and/or administrative responsibilities associated with the department’s educational programs, advising, and operations.
This is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment with an academic-year (10-month) obligation. This initial appointment will be a three-year, renewable (performance-based) appointment that begins as early as January 2023. Position will start for the spring 2023 or fall 2023 semester depending on candidate availability. The position is open until filled with a priority date of November 1, 2022, for review of applications.
