Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $49,900 – $60,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

MSU Denver seeks an innovative content creator and digital strategist to support its public relations, marketing, external and internal communications efforts through social media. The social media coordinator will manage day to day operations of all University social media channels, including posting, monitoring and analyzing. Through the ideation, creation and strategic placement of shareable content, the social media coordinator will communicate the MSU Denver story, build a community of followers and maximize engagement with internal stakeholders (students, alumni, faculty, staff, friends, partners and donors) and the external community (prospective students, media, industry leaders, local and national influencers, etc.).

A member of MSU Denver’s University Communications and Marketing ( UCM ) team, the social media coordinator reports to the social media strategist and works closely with the UCM team and departments across campus to advance the University’s brand and mission.

Duties/Responsibilities

40% – Content Planning, Capture, Creation and Distribution
  • Plan, manage, implement and communicate a strategic social media content calendar in support of editorial and marketing strategy and in alignment with student affairs and other key stakeholders.
  • Create compelling, innovative content that supports social media strategy and maximizes engagement, including creating unique graphics
  • Curate and capture dynamic content across campus including capturing and editing original photo and video
  • Write and optimize editorial and marketing content for social media
  • Post/share content strategically across social and digital media channels, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, Vimeo, Google My Business and TikTok
30% – Maximize engagement through regular listening, moderation and responsiveness
  • Moderate day to day operations of all University social media channels, including direct engagement with constituents and account moderation.
  • Monitor and listen on social media channels and proactively address conversations or issues relevant to the organization. Troubleshoot with entities across campus to respond to questions and help resolve issues in timely fashion.
  • Actively engage audiences, spurring dialogue and responding to inquiries in a timely fashion. Some of this monitoring and dialogue will happen during evenings and weekends.
  • Support and actively participate in crisis communication preparation and processes
10% – Support Editorial Strategy
  • Contribute content ideas to editorial team
  • Write original, engaging stories that can be shared across communication channels
  • Adapt stories and content published on MSU Denver’s online newsroom, RED, to appeal to targeted audiences on each social media channel.
10% – Data analyzation and iteration
  • Analyze and document social success metrics
  • Continual monitoring of social media trends, innovations and best practices.
10% – Campus Support and collaboration
  • Assist departments with social media requests
  • Provide related education, training and tools
  • Support social media marketing efforts
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media trends, platforms and tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, business, new media, journalism or related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in short form writing for social media.
  • Experience creating innovative, engaging and shareable branded content across a variety of social media channels for a business, nonprofit, governmental or higher education institution.
  • Experience working with photography, graphics, video and gifs to create clickable content.
  • Experience managing a social media calendar with clear benchmarks to demonstrate achievements.
  • Night and weekend work including the flexibility to attend events/initiatives, respond to and monitor University social media accounts outside of traditional business hours is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in social media management, marketing.
  • Professional experience in higher education.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency building relationships and networking with campus stakeholders.
  • Experience and comfort presenting to groups.
  • Clear understanding of social media theory and industry trends to inform University-wide social media strategy.
  • Demonstrated understanding of social media management tools like Sprout and Meltwater, and ability to critically evaluate emerging digital platforms for future use by the department.
  • Experience in developing and executing a social media plan with goals and metrics as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Familiarity with social media advertising.
  • Familiarity with web publishing
Work Hours

M-F: 8-5 (Occasional evening and weekend work required)
Hours may vary during peak periods.
This position may offer a Hybrid (on-campus and virtual) work option.
