Performs teaching and related faculty functions in area(s) of expertise.
In addition:
- Supports the American Sign Language Program Teaches 24 credit hours in the American Sign Language Program per academic year Serves as an advisor for the ASL Club Coordinates ASL and Deaf community events Assists in creating a BA Program in American Sign Language
The faculty member will participate in college, department and professional activities such as curriculum and program development, grant writing, service learning, assessment, faculty development and student advisement and mentoring.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.
Preferred qualifications:
- A masters degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent. Preference is given to candidates who hold a doctorate.
- The successful candidate’s’ terminal degree can be in the field of applied linguistics, including foreign language acquisition and pedagogy; social sciences such as Anthropology and Sociology; Education; or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
- Evidence of excellence in ASL teaching at all levels of undergraduate language instruction.
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse student population.
- Extensive knowledge of Deaf Culture and the Deaf Community.
- Experience or familiarity with multiple teaching modalities, such as online, hybrid and in-person teaching.
- Interest in technology enhanced instruction.
- Demonstrated ability and/or commitment to developing and maintaining a strong ASL program, including developing degrees.
