About the Opportunity

The Senior Associate Director Fund Management is an advocate for donors, preparing comprehensive terms that capture the donors' intent when they wish to establish funds. In partnership with the Director of Fund Management liaison with deans, budget managers and others to ensure compliance with fund terms. The Senior Associate Director is also a solution-oriented advocate for the university, working with donors and gift officers to craft fund terms that will support the institution's evolving goals. As a member of the fund management team the senior associate director will partner with stewardship team to create strategies to steward donors who establish named student support and faculty support funds.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree required. 7+ years progressively responsible experience in advancement/development office, preferably in higher education. Demonstrated effectiveness in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization, requiring flexibility and adaptability to changing organizational priorities. Strong and collegial interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated strong computer skills. Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties. Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously.

Preferred: Knowledge of fundraising database (i.e., Salesforce) and SharePoint. Knowledge of document management principles and systems and knowledge of development/advancement principles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fund Management/Donor Compliance
  • Manage fund establishment process including drafting terms, identifying donor preferences that may present challenges, proposing alternate preferences, revising drafts and working with Accounting/Finance through fund setup.
  • Managing updates to SharePoint database and other relevant systems to ensure fund terms are shared and partnering with stewardship on strategy for new funds.
  • Assist with requests made by internal audit with regard to fund management.
  • Serves as lead on SharePoint database of fund information about donor intent and fund balances. Handles training for budget managers on how to use SharePoint and work with developers to make improvements to the site.
  • Identify funds that are unable to be used due to fund restrictions, work with assigned gift officers for living donors for fund term revisions and make recommendations to Board of Trustees when donors are deceased.
  • Create the content for and conduct training on the gift agreement process for development staff, provide the development team with the tools and understanding to create best in class gift agreements, ensure clarity regarding the gift agreement process
  • Track status of all gift agreements and account attributes for managing gifts.
  • Advises Donor Relations team on gift acknowledgement letters to the University's top supporters that accompany final gift agreements on behalf of the President and/or the Senior Vice President for University Advancement.
  • Develops and implements a tracking system of all gift agreements to provide status reports
  • Monitors and reviews active major and principal gift agreements for adherence to the University's policies, IRS regulations and CASE guidelines.


Reporting/Administration
  • In partnership with the Director of Fund Management, The Donor Relations team, Accounting, and the Treasurer's office: assists in the preparation and delivery of annual financial reports and the annual endowment management and performance document to all donors with reportable endowed funds; and prepares customized financial reports for donors who have complex needs.
