Position Summary
Governors State University is seeking to hire a School Age/Preschool Teacher to be responsible for the school age group of children all year, for the Before and After Care Program in addition to School Age Summer Camp. During August through May, the teacher will be expected to help in the other classrooms as part of the essential responsibilities when school aged children are in their district schools. The incumbent will also be responsible for getting the school age children from school buses and following through with the assigned responsibilities each day.
This position is eligible for a $500 sign-on bonus.
Salary $16.00 per hour.

MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, 12:00 – 6:00 P.M.

Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED : DOCUMENTATION CONFIRMING HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION OR EQUIVALENT MUST BE ATTACHED FOR CONSIDERATION OF THIS POSITION, COLLEGE / UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPTS MAY BE SUBSTITUTED (See “Special instructions to applicants” section below).
• High School Diploma plus 3120 clock hours of experience in a recreational program, kindergarten or licensed day care center serving school-age children or a licensed exempt school-age child care program operated by a public or private school.
• At least 19 years of age and at least five years older than the oldest child with whom they work.
• Sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours In courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six;
OR
• One year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience In a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours In courses related directly to child care and/or child development. from birth to age six.
•Thirty semester hours of college coursework from accredited college or university with six semester hours (or nine quarter hours) related to school-age child care, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields.
OR
• 1560 clock hours of experience In a recreational program or licensed daycare center serving school-age children or license exempt school-age child care program operated by a public school or private school and six semester hours (or 9 quarter hours) of credit from an accredited college or university related to school-age child care, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields.
• Child Development Associate Credential or equivalent A minimum of 12 college credits (semester hours) In early childhood education, child development, or early childhood special education that encompass the following: child development and learning of children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting, and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development by July 1, 2020.
• Completion of a training program accredited by the American Montessori Society or Association Montessori Internationale may be substituted for the courses directly related to child care and/or child development required by this Section. Persons holding a Montessori pre-primary credential may supervise children through age six. Persons holding a Montessori primary or elementary credential may supervise children six years of age or older.
• As of September 30, 2017 all teachers and assistants and aides are required to have an lllinois Early Childhood Education Level 1 Credential.
