Program Director for STEM Pedagogy

Description: The University of Notre Dame invites applications for a full time faculty position as Program Director for STEM Pedagogy, which includes appointment as a teaching professor (assistant or associate). The program director will function as an educational development generalist, with a focus on STEM fields. We seek a colleague with broad expertise in educational development, evidence-based pedagogy, and a strong commitment to equity in teaching and learning.

Working as part of the ND Learning team and with faculty colleagues, the program director will:
  • serve as a visible campus advocate for learning and teaching excellence;
  • design and facilitate workshops and programs on a variety of pedagogy topics with a focus on STEM fields;
  • consult with instructors and groups on teaching, with primary focus on STEM fields;
  • maintain an active scholarly and professional presence in the field of educational development or Scholarship of Teaching and Learning/Discipline-Based Education Research;
  • typically teach one course per year for Notre Dame undergraduates in an academic department or program.

This position is primarily in-person, located within the Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence, a core component of Notre Dame Learning, the University's central hub for transformational learning initiatives and a key driver of inclusive excellence.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have demonstrated achievements in educational development, professional fluency with broader higher education teaching and learning literature, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative disposition. In addition, the successful candidate will have expertise with effective learning and teaching strategies in STEM education, an established record of success as an educational developer working on programs and with instructors in STEM, and a PhD in a relevant academic discipline.

Required qualifications for an appointment at the rank of assistant teaching professor: at least two years of experience working in educational development, Ph.D. in a relevant discipline in hand at the time of appointment, and evidence of effective teaching at the postsecondary level.

Required qualifications at the rank of associate teaching professor: at least four years of full-time experience in educational development, Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, demonstrated success in educational development, and evidence of effective teaching at the postsecondary level.
