The Digital & Social Media Specialist is the face and voice of the College of Arts and Sciences ( CAS ) across all social channels. Major responsibilities include management of all CAS social media accounts; daily engagement with friends and followers; and growing friends and affinity through relevant, useful content and meaningful interaction. Additionally, the Digital & Social Media Strategist creates and maintains a social media plan and content calendar, inclusive of a content marketing strategy; creates and coordinates various e-newsletters; acts as gatekeeper for A&S events on the University Events calendar system; creates, edits, proofreads and maintains website content; and creates and maintains digital signage. Social media event coverage is also an important aspect of this position, and the Digital & Social Media Strategist may also be called upon to train and supervise student workers. The successful candidate will have experience with professionally managing social media accounts (university experience would be particularly helpful); a keen sense of judgement, discretion and customer service; excellent writing and editing skills; creating various types of digital content (include photos and videos); and a deep knowledge of social media analytics and reporting. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of communications/marketing/public relations experience, including social media management for a university or college/school within a university. Training and experience with s/m media analytics and reporting. Strong writing, editing, proofreading and interpersonal communications skills. Familiarity with content marketing and best practice principles. Job Specific Qualifications
  • Well versed in popular/current social media platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and others. Must also stay abreast of emerging and recommend new opportunities.
  • Thorough understanding of content marketing principles.
  • High level of judgement in creating, evaluating, and publishing content, as well as to responding to concerns, criticisms and queries.
  • Experience creating social media plans and content calendars.
  • Strong working knowledge of social media analytics and reporting.
  • Customer service and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to solve problems while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Experience creating social media, e-newsletter and web content with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to take and edit photos (and some video) into different formats for use on social media and web platforms.
  • Tremendous attention to detail and flawless copyediting skills.
  • Adherence to the University’s brand guidelines, as well as relevant accessibility guidelines (eg captioning for videos).
Responsibilities
  • Create valuable and relevant content to be leveraged across all social media channels following University policies. Manage all CAS social media accounts including daily engagement with friends, followers & connections following University policies around social media. Responsible for daily moderation of social media sites, identification of emerging issues, and recommendations for response from leadership as needed. Provide strategy, training and coverage for all social media-related activities related to CAS events. Create and maintain a social media strategy plan and content calendar, inclusive of a content marketing strategy, and goals and mechanisms for measurement and reporting.
  • Create, review, and schedule various CAS e-newsletters. Manage entries from across the College to the University Events calendar; create and manage digital signage; write and edit web content. |
  • Act as a subject matter expert and resource regarding social-media related matters, and convene regular meetings with internal partners and other stakeholders to ensure strategy and messaging are consistent, coordinated, and optimized. This may include presentations, general s/m education, and possible training and supervision of student workers..
  • Occasional travel may include conferences and other professional development activities, assistance at off-campus recruitment or yield events, and visits to vendor sites or other campuses. Responsible for attending Central Marketing social media-related meetings and training.
