Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend hours.Position requires a shifted schedule including a minimum of two nights a week while the academic terms are in session with occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend hours.

About the Position:
The Office of Student Retention is focused on persistence and graduate rates of students, aiming to empower Titans in the process of matriculation. At first glance, professional growth and academic success are the focuses of this area, yet it is more about the relationships that are developed to foster such success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Degree Program Coordinator (Student Services Professional III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the direction of the Director of Athletics Academic Services, the Degree Program Coordinator (Student Services Professional III) supports student-athletes in attaining their academic goals through proactive academic support mentoring and tutoring, in close collaboration with Athletics Academic Services (AAS) Counselors. More specifically, develops and delivers comprehensive academic support services, including individualized academic plans to academically under-prepared student-athletes and student-athletes with education-impacting disabilities. Develops strong working relationships with student-athletes that emphasize the value of education and the development of self-reliance, self-confidence, empowerment, and intrinsic motivation. Works closely with the Director and Assistant Director of AAS on the hiring and scheduling of academic mentors and tutors, as well as provides consistent and frequent feedback to Academic Counselors and coaches concerning the progress of identified student-athletes.

Assists the Assistant Director of AAS and Counselors with admission evaluations for first-time freshmen and transfer student-athletes, serving as the AAS Admissions back up liaison. Oversees the Study Hall and Computer Lab programs. Serves as the IT liaison for the AAS Department, with proficiency in the following technology programs: CMS, Microsoft Office Suite, TitanNet, Google docs, Study Hall Tracker, and the Early Warning Grade Check Program. Serves as a member of the Student Affairs Technology Committee, and pro-actively explores and presents new solutions to on-going technology needs. Provides comprehensive complex academic advisement, counseling and proactive monitoring to student athletes, in assigned sports, in accordance with institutional and NCAA rules, guidelines, and regulations. Plans and develops creative solutions. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution plus three years of professional student services work in the field. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for three years of the required professional experience.

Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and the overall organization.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of NCAA guidelines and compliance policies. Comfortability with navigating, utilizing, and implementing new technology to help keep the DEGREE Lab up to date and cutting edge. Aptitude to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible with regards to changes in processes and procedures to better support student-athletes. Ability to take constructive feedback as well as collaborate and work in a team atmosphere.
